Marsilio Ficino (1433-99), is a classical figure of philosophy and learning. His authoritative translations of the early Greek philosophers and his extensive correspondence with the leading scholars of the day were significant in the rebirth of Platonic thinking. Working from his Platonic Academy in Florence, he proved a significant influence in the Italian Renaissance and, as a friend to John Colet, was influential in the development of the English Public School system.
