The Ficino School was founded in 1997 by parents from the School of Philosophy in Auckland to meet the need for a comprehensive, formative and principled education. Ficino School is modeled on the highly regarded St James Independent Schools in London, and seeks to restore spiritual values, uphold traditional virtues and encourage systematic study.

Ficino School is a member of the Independent Educational Association (IEA) of schools which includes John Scottus (Dublin), Alcuin (Yorkshire), Abraham Lincoln (New York), John Colet (Sydney), Erasmus (Melbourne) and St James (Johannesburg).
